Daniel Williamson (SN 304) was born in Scotland and was a 24 year old fitter when he enlisted in Ballarat on August 18th 1914. Attached to the 8th Infantry Battalion he embarked from Melbourne aboard the Benalla on October 19th and sailed to Egypt. On April 25th 1915 his unit was part of the second wave of Gallipoli landings. On August 7th he suffered a bullet wound to his left shoulder. He was evacuated to hospital in the UK where some degree of paralysis of his left arm was detected. He was deemed unfit for further active service and was returned to Australia aboard the Themistocles. He was discharged medically unfit on November 15th 1916.
