Private Daniel Williamson, Scottish-born Fitter by trade, enlisted in the 8th infantry battalion on 18 August 1914 from Ballarat. He received a gunshot wound to the shoulder on 7 August 1915 and was hospitalized. The wound proved to be troublesome and he awarded a medical discharge on 15 November 1916 with a paralysed left arm.
