Biography

Royden Louis Charles Bennett (SN 5342) was born in Melbourne and educated at Trinity Grammar. By the time he enlisted on July 9th 1915 he was a 25 year old farmer, married to Gladys Davies from Ballarat. He embarked from Australia on April 4th 1916 aboard the Euripides and joined the 7th Battalion in France in June. In August he was listed as ‘missing in action’ at Pozieres but a Court of Enquiry, several months later, determined that he had been killed in action on August 18th 1916. He was 26 years old and is buried in the Pozieres British Cemetery, the epitaph on his headstone reading ’OUR LOVED ONE.’
