William Anstee was born in Happy Valley, near Linton, and enlisted in Ballarat on 17th August 1914. He was a 27 year old, unmarried, and employed as a carpenter. He was a member of the eth Infantry Battalion, and his Regimental No. was 186. He was killed at Gallipoli on 24th November 1915, and is buried in the Ari Burnu Cemetery which is at the northern end of Anzac Cove.
Tree No. 9, an elm, was planted by Miss C Todd, a 'Lucas Girl', on 4th June 1917.
