Biography

William Anstee (SN 186) was born in Happy Valley, near Linton, and educated at Skipton then Dana Street State Schools. He was a 26 year old carpenter when he enlisted on August 17th 1914. He embarked aboard the Benalla on October 19th as part of the first Anzac fleet. He served on Gallipoli with the 8th Battalion until the final sages when he was killed on November 24th 1915. He was 28 years of age and is buried in the Ari Burnu Cemetery at the northern end of Anzac Cove.
