Biography

George Alexander Roderick Bond was born in Ballarat and was a Labourer when he enlisted in the 21st Battalion, 10th Reinforcement on 10 July 1915 at the age of 19. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A18 Wiltshire on 7 March 1916. He was awarded 9 days' forfeiture of pay for being absent without leave for three days on 13 August 1916 and was later admitted to hospital as sick with venereal disease. On or about 12 November 1916 he misplaced his equipment and being unable to locate it, it had to be replaced at his cost. His illness proved troublesome (at the time VD was considered a self-inflicted illnesss) and he was granted a medical discharge, returning home aboard the Orca, disembarking in Melbourne on 31 March 1919,
