Cyril Vivian Evans (SN 2144) born in Melbourne, was a 24 year old motor tyre repairer when he enlisted in Melbourne on July 10th 1915. He embarked aboard the Hororata on September 27th and sailed to Egypt. He served initially with the 23rd Infantry Battalion but persistent illnesses led to his transfer to the Service Corps. He served predominantly in Egypt and Palestine until he was returned to Australia aboard the Leicestershire. He disembarked at Melbourne on January 22nd 1919 and was discharged on March 8th ‘medically unfit, varicose veins’.
