Born in Creswick, Victoria, John Spence Murphy was a married 27 year old labourer at the time of his enlistment on the 10th of July 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on the 10th of November 1915.
John returned to Australia on the 7th of May 1919, and was discharged due to the termination of his enlistment period on the 26th of June 1919.
