William Bennett Quayle was born in Ballarat and worked as a fellmonger in Ballarat South. He enlisted in 14th Infantry Battalion at the age of 19. His Regimental No. was 4294. Later he was transferred to the 4th Pioneers Battalion. On 24th November 1916 he was killed in action near Albert, and is buried in the Guards Cemetery, Les Bouefs, France.
