Biography

William Maloney was born in Warrenheip and was a Labourer by trade when he enlisted in the 14th Battalion, 13th Reinforcement on 10 July 1915 at the age of 37. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A64 Demosthenes on 29 December 1915, stopped for a time in Egypt then in June 1916 joined the 14th Battalion in France. On April 11th 1917 he was reported as æmissing in action' at Bullecourt, but a German list dated June 16th 1917 confirmed that he had been captured and interned at the Dulmen Camp in Germany. After the Armistice he was repatriated to England, arriving there on Christmas Day 1918. He returned to Australia on the Derbyshire and disembarked at Melbourne on April 22nd 1919.
