Biography

Stanley Mclean Lonie (SN 3069) was born in Ballarat and attended the Eureka Street State School. He enlisted on July 10th 1915 at which time he was a 23 year old, unmarried labourer. He joined the 6th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne in late September on board the Osterley. He arrived in France in March 1916 and was killed in action near Passchendaele on October 4th 1917. He has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Stanley McLonie.
