Private William Edwin Leslie Clapham, a butcher born in Barkers Creek, enlisted in the 8th Infantry battalion on 18 August 1914. He was wounded with a gunshot to the fingers on 14 May 1915 and later employed as a policeman as of 10 August 1915, but was later found to be æmedically unfit', receiving a medical discharge on 24 July 1917.
