Biography

Horace Stanley Lucas (SN 3816) was Ballarat born and attended the Pleasant Street State School. He was 20 years old and single when he enlisted on July 9th 1915. He was posted to the 7th Infantry Battalion and left Melbourne on board the Ceramic in November. While training in Egypt, he was transferred to the 59th Infantry Battalion and promoted to Sergeant before asking to be returned to the ranks prior to arriving in France at the end of June. He was again promoted to Lance Sergeant just a couple of weeks before being killed in action at Fromelles on July 19th 1916. He has no known grave, and his name is recorded at VC Corner Cemetery and Memorial, Fromelles.
