Charles Archibald Greenway (SN 860) born at Ballarat, was a 19 year old harness and leather worker when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 16th 1915. He trained with the Artillery Corps before embarking aboard the Wandilla on November 9th. In June 1916 he reached France where he served with the 5th Division Ammunition Column. In August he was hospitalised suffering from exhaustion, rejoining his unit a month later. He then managed to serve out the war without serious illness or injury. He returned to Australia aboard the Orontes, disembarked at Melbourne on June 28th 1919 and was discharged on August 22nd.
