Sarah Bell (Sister) born at Scarsdale, did her nursing training at the Ballarat Base Hospital. She enlisted in the Australian Army Nursing Service on July 20th 1915, giving her age as 33, although it was later found to be nearer 40. She embarked for the first time aboard the Orontes on August 4th on what was to be the first of three return voyages between Australia and Egypt or England. She served at hospitals in both England and Egypt but most of her service was as a nurse aboard troopships within the Australian Medical Corps Sea Transport Section. Her final voyage home was aboard the Wyreema and her appointment was terminated on February 12th 1919.
