Biography

Annie Ellen Shadforth (Sister) born at Blakeville, trained as a nurse at Perth General Hospital. She was 27 when she joined the Australian Army Nursing Service on June 24th 1915. The following day she embarked from Fremantle aboard the Karoola and sailed to Egypt where she began service at the 1st Australian General Hospital at Heliopolis. In April 1916 she moved to France where she served at several hospitals. In May 1919 she was promoted to Sister. When the war ended, she returned to Australia on nursing duty aboard the Main, disembarked at Melbourne on October 11th 1919 and her position was terminated on December 28th.
