Annie Serjeant was born in Ballarat and trained as a nurse at the Ballarat Base Hospital. She was 26 when she joined the Australian Army Nursing Service in Launceston, Tasmania, on May 18th 1917. On June 12th she sailed aboard the Mooltan via India, first to Egypt and then on to Salonika in Greece where she served at the 60th General Hospital. In June 1918 she was hospitalised with severe appendicitis. After the war she returned home on the Wandilla, disembarked on May 18th 1919 and left the AANS on July 2nd.
