Emily Pauline Cherry (Sister) born in Ballarat, trained as a nurse at the Ballarat Base Hospital but was nursing in Launceston, Tasmania, when she joined the Australian Army Nursing Service on May 18th 1917. She embarked aboard the Mooltan on June 19th and sailed to Salonica, Greece, for service nursing British soldiers. In February 1918 a Medical Board found her unfit to continue service due to chronic arthritis and she was returned to Australia aboard the Kanowna, disembarking at Melbourne on May 22nd 1918. She was deemed fit to resume duty in Tasmania in late September, but her position was terminated on December 12th 1918.
