Biography

Daisie Mary Llewellyn was born in Ballarat and trained as a nurse at the Ballarat Base Hospital. She was 27 when she joined the Australian Army Nursing Service on August 18th 1916. On December 6th she embarked aboard the Orsova and served first at the 26th General Hospital in France before being recalled to the 5th Stationary Hospital in England. On January 3rd 1918 she was required to resign from the AANS as a consequence of her marriage to Private Herbert Ludbrook. As Mrs Ludbrook, she returned to Australia aboard the Dunluce Castle and disembarked on January 29th 1919.

Her brothers Eric and Llewellyn also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Daisy M. Llewellyn.
