Biography

Lilian Cannon (Staff Nurse), born at Ararat, trained as a nurse at the Ballarat Base Hospital, before enlisting in the Australian Army Nursing Service in early December 1916, at the age of 36. On December 26th she embarked aboard the Mooltan and sailed to Bombay. She served at hospitals in India, treating mostly British soldiers, until the war ended. In November 1918 she was moved to England where she took special leave to do further nursing training in London. She returned to Australia as a member of the nursing staff aboard the Orontes, reached Melbourne on December 6th 1919 and was discharged from the AANS on April 26th 1920.
