Gladys Muriel Larkan (Sister) born at Bright, trained as a nurse at the Ballarat Base Hospital before joining the Australian Army Nursing Service, aged 25. She embarked on December 26th 1916 and sailed to India where she was posted to the Colaba War Hospital. In December 1917 she was transferred to the Hislop War Hospital still in India. When the fighting ended, she was transferred to the Australian Hospital at Harefield in England where she served until she returned to Australia aboard the Orsova. Unfortunately, her leather trunk was opened during the return voyage and much of its contents were stolen. She arrived at Melbourne on September 4th 1919 and her position was terminated on February 28th 1920.
