Elizabeth (Bessie) Agnes Thompson (Sister) born at Ballarat, trained as a nurse at Ballarat’s Base Hospital. Aged 26 she joined the Australian Army Nursing Service on December 6th 1916. On December 26th she embarked aboard the Mooltan and sailed to Bombay where she began service at the Victoria War Hospital. During her service she nursed at other hospitals in Bombay and Bangalore. She was promoted to Sister on December 26th 1918. She returned to Australia aboard the City of Cairo, disembarked on March 31st. She spent time at the War Nurses Convalescent Home in Brisbane before her position was terminated on January 10th 1920.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Bessie A. Thompson.
