Biography

George Herbert Pollard (SN 28893) born at Clunes, was a 30 year old motor mechanic and driver when he enlisted in Cootamundra NSW on March 9th 1916. He embarked aboard the Aeneas on September 30th and sailed to England. In March 1917 he was deployed to France, attached to the 2nd Australian Motor Transport Company as a driver. He managed to complete his service without suffering significant harm. He returned to Australia aboard the Chemnitz, disembarked at Melbourne on September 8th 1919 and was discharged on October 23rd.

His brother Ernest also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
