Biography

William Daw (SN 2043) was born in Ballarat and educated at Urquhart Street State School. He was 30 years of age, single, and a department manager when he enlisted in Bendigo on October 6th 1914. He left Melbourne in December on board the Ceramic. Serving with the 9th Company Australian Army Service Corps, he was wounded in action on Gallipoli and evacuated to Egypt where he died on August 17th 1915. He is buried in the Chatby War Memorial Cemetery, Cairo, Egypt.

His brother Leslie was killed in action in August 1918 and his brother Ernest also served in the AIF and they are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
