Biography

Cecil Thomas Merlin was born in Ballarat and was a Butcher by trade when he enlisted in the 24th Battalion, 6th Reinforcement on 12 July 1915 at the age of 26. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A38 Ulysses on 27 October 1915. In February 1916 he transferred from the 24th to the 7th Battalion with whom he travelled to France at the end of March. Aside from a period of illness in early 1917 he came through the war without significant physical harm. He sailed from England in July 1919 on the Boorara, disembarking at Melbourne on August 26th.
