Horace Richard Merlin was born in Sydney, N.S.W.and at the age of 28 whilst working as a shunter and being a single man enlisted from Melbourne, Victoria on 7 July 1915. His Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A72 Beltana on 9 November 1915. After his landing on foreign ground he was wounded in action in France 20/7/16. Upon recovery he was promoted to Lance Corporal 22/11/16. He Returned to Australia 19 April 1919. Tree No. 3226.
