Biography

Lindsay Gordon Fitzgerald (SN 9785) born in Ballarat, was a 20 year old coach painter when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 16th 1915. He embarked aboard the Anchises on March 14th 1916 and sailed via Egypt to France, arriving there in late June. He served predominantly with the 14th Field Ambulance but was transferred for a time to the 5th Division Motor Transport Company. He returned to Australia aboard the Nestor, disembarked at Melbourne on July 2nd 1919 and was discharged on August 16th. He also enlisted to serve during WW2 with service number V1598.

His brother Albert also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
