Albert Victor Fitzgerald (SN 2477) born in Ballarat, was a 24 year old lithographer when he enlisted in Sydney on August 29th 1914. He embarked aboard the Argyllshire on October 18th and sailed to Egypt. He served in Egypt and France with the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade. He avoided battle wounds but did experience a protracted illness and recorded several discipline charges. He returned to Australia aboard the Kashmir, disembarked at Melbourne on May 2nd 1919 and was discharged on May 16th.
His brother Lindsay also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
