Biography

Percy Hollioake (SN 4510) was born in Ballarat and attended the Golden Point State School. He was 18 years old, single and a miner when he enlisted on July 13th 1915. He sailed from Melbourne on board the Themistocles in late January 1916 and, on arrival in Egypt, was posted to the 58th Infantry Battalion. He reached France in June but was killed in action at Fromelles on July 19th 1916. He has no known grave and his name is recorded on VC Corner Australian Cemetery Memorial, Fromelles, France. He was 19 years of age.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Percy Hollioke.
