Robert Victor Farckens (SN 667) was born at Mildura and was a 22 year old labourer when he enlisted in Melbourne on August 19th 1914. He served through the Gallipoli campaign with the 8th Infantry Battalion before moving to France in late March 1916. His service record carries no reference to illness, injury or discipline issues. He was granted ‘1914 leave’ and returned to Australia aboard the Devon, disembarking at Melbourne on November 23rd 1918. He was discharged on January 24th 1919.
His brothers Jack and Harold also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
