Biography

Henry Lancelot Williams (SN 1436) born at Ballarat, was a 22 year old farmer when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 12th 1915. He embarked aboard the Ceramic on November 23rd and sailed to Egypt before moving to France in March 1916 to serve with the 1st Anzac Army Corps Light Horse Regiment. He avoided major illness or injury although in March 1918 he ‘drove a horse attached to a mess cart at a trot’ and was admonished. He returned to Australia on the Nestor, disembarked on July 2nd 1919 and was discharged on August 24th.

His brother Arthur also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
