Biography

Arthur Oliver Morrell (SN 684A) was born in Ballarat where he attended the Pleasant Street State School. On November 25th 1914 he enlisted as a 30 year old, unmarried labourer. He was posted to the 9th Light Horse Regiment, embarking on January 29th 1915 aboard the Mashobra and reaching Gallipoli in early August. After Gallipoli he was transferred to the 50th Infantry Battalion. He was killed during the fighting at Polygon Wood on September 27th 1917. He is buried in Hooge Crater Cemetery, Ypres, Belgium.
