George Henry Morrell (SN 50/Lt.) born at Ballarat, was a married 29 year old saddler when he enlisted in Melbourne on November 11th 1914. He embarked aboard the Euripides on May 10th 1915 and saw action at Gallipoli with the 23rd Infantry Battalion. He then served in France where he was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in October 1917 then lieutenant in January 1918. He avoided battle wounds and returned to Australia aboard the Ulysses, disembarked at Melbourne on March 10th 1919 and his appointment was terminated on May 9th . He also enlisted to serve during WW2 with service number V85783.
His brother Arthur was killed in action in September 1917 in Belgium and his brother Francis also served in the AIF and they are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
