Biography

Stanley Roy Lacy (SN 3145) born in Ballarat, was an 18 year old farmer when he enlisted at Ballarat on July 16th 1915. He embarked aboard the Commonwealth on November 20th, to Egypt where he was posted to the 57th Infantry Battalion. He reached France in late June 1916 and three weeks later suffered a severe wound to his leg and was unable to rejoin his unit until January 1917. He had only been back for 10 days when he suffered another serious leg wound which resulted in him being returned to Australia aboard the Demothenes. He disembarked at Melbourne on September 24th 1917 and was discharged ‘medically unfit’ on March 2nd 1918. He also enlisted to serve during WW2 with service number S37825.

His brother Albert also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
