George Joseph Fox (SN 12551) born in Ballarat, was a 19 year old boot seller when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 17th 1915. He trained with the Medical Corps before he embarked aboard the Ascanius on May 27th 1916. He reached the Western Front battlefields in November to serve with the 10th Field Ambulance. He came through the war without suffering significant harm and returned to Australia as a member of the nursing staff aboard the Armagh, disembarked at Melbourne on May 18th 1919 and was discharged on July 2nd. He also enlisted to serve during WW2 with service number V368140.
His brother Charles also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
