Biography

Wilfred Jackson (SN 3053) born in Ballarat, was a 27 year old bricklayer when he enlisted in Geelong on July 14th 1915. He embarked aboard the Ceramic on November 23rd to serve with the 5th Field Company Engineers at the Western Front. He avoided serious injury or illness until August 1918 when he suffered a severe gunshot wound to his leg and was evacuated to hospital. The Armistice was signed before he could return to the Front. He returned to Australia aboard the Port Sydney, disembarked on November 12th 1919 and was discharged on January 11th 1920.

His brother Richard also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
