Alfred Brunsden Chibnall (SN 2921) born at Ballarat, was 15 years old when he enlisted in the Navy on May 17th 1913 in Sydney. He was posted to numerous ships as an Able Seaman including the Cerberus, the Encounter and the Tingira. His service was without significant incident with his only injury a fractured wrist, a result of a fall while painting a docked vessel in 1914. In August 1918 he was awarded the Good Conduct Badge. He was discharged from the Navy in September 1922. He also enlisted (SN V376089) to serve during World War 2.

His brother Walter served in the AIF and was killed in action in August 1918 and is also honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
