Biography

Alfred Charles Campbell Briant (SN 695) was born in Colac but attended the Macarthur Street State School in Ballarat. He was a 22 year old, unmarried warehouseman in Ballarat when he enlisted on August 19th 1914. He embarked on October 19th aboard the Hororata and landed on Gallipoli with the 6th Infantry Battalion.

He was reported missing during the heavy fighting at Krithia near Cape Helles but it was eventually confirmed he had been killed in action on May 8th 1915. He was buried nearby but after the war his grave could not be identified and his name is recorded on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli, and on the honour board of the Macarthur Street State School. He was 23 years of age.
