Biography

Edgar Andrew Dyring (SN 704) was born in Brighton but educated at Humffray Street State School in Ballarat. He was 22 years of age, single and a salesman and farmhand when he enlisted on February 26th 1915. He embarked from Melbourne in May on board the Euripides and served at Gallipoli as a sniper with the 23rd Battalion. After Gallipoli he served in France with the 6th Light Trench Mortar Battery until he was accidentally killed near Dernancourt, France, on June 1st 1917 when there was a premature explosion in some faulty ammunition. He is buried in Dernancourt Cemetery, France.

His brother Hugh also served in the AIF and is honoured with a Military Medal and a tree in the Avenue.
