Biography

Albert John Orr (SN 5657) was born in Ballarat and attended the Pleasant Street State School. He enlisted in Ballarat on July 12th 1915. He was 24 years old, unmarried and a carpenter. He was allotted to the 2nd Field Company Engineers and embarked from Sydney in January 1916. Later he was transferred to the 5th Pioneer Battalion. On October 26th 1917 he died of wounds received during the fighting at Passchendaele. He is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.

His brother George also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
