Biography

George Ernest Orr was born in Ballarat and was a Cabinetmaker when he enlisted in the 14th Battalion, 12th Reinforcement on 23 October 1915 at the age of 22. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A40 Ceramic on 23 November 1915. He was hospitalised for a brief time due to 'illness' on 22 November 1916 and was later wounded in action on 7 April 1918 for a gunshot wound to the back of the right hand and left ankle. He returned to Australia 11 December 1918 aboard the Saxon and was discharged as medically unfit on 16 March 1919.
