Biography

Charles Robert McGregor (SN 1178) was born in Ballarat East, was a single 30 year old clerk at the time of his enlistment at Seymour, Victoria on September 30 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT SS Hawkes Bay on October 26 1915.
Charles returned to Australia on September 24 1916, and was discharged as medically unfit on November 1 1916.
Charles enlisted for a second time on the 1st of October 1917. From then until his discharge on the 30th of December 1918, he was ranked as Corporal.

His brother Rob Roy (Bob) McGregor and a sister, Laurie also served in the AIF and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
Another brother, Angus Gordon McGregor (SN 27828) served in the AIF, enlisting at Prahran, Victoria on 2 May 1916 and returning to Australia in January 1918.
