Laurie Mary McGregor was born at Ballarat East in 1891 to the Hon. Robert Maxwell McGregor and Mary née Laurie.
The following appeared on page 4 of The Ballarat Star on Thursday 14 June 1917 -
"Resigned. — Sister Laurie McGregor who has been attached to the Ballarat Hospital nursing staff for several years, is about to take up military work, and her resignation was received by the Hospital committee at its meeting last evening. It was resolved, on the recommendation of the house committee, to accept the resignation with regret. Sister McGregor is a daughter of the Hon. R. McGregor, M.L.A., and her services have been accepted by the military authorities."
Her brothers Charles Robert McGregor and Rob Roy (Bob) also served in the AIF and are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
Another brother, Angus Gordon McGregor (SN 27828) served in the AIF, enlisting at Prahran, Victoria on 2 May 1916 and returning to Australia in January 1918.
