Biography

Roy James Murray (SN 61) born at Ballarat, was an 18 year old salesman when he enlisted at Ballarat on August 3rd 1915. He embarked aboard the Wandilla on June 6th 1916. In November he reached France to serve with the 3rd Pioneer Battalion. He was later transferred to the 11th Field Ambulance and completed his service without serious illness or injury. He returned to Australia aboard the Port Macquarie and was discharged on July 10th 1919. He died of illness in 1945 while serving in the Second World War with service number V91147 .

His brother William was killed in action in November 1915 and another brother Walter also served in the AIF and they are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
