Biography

Richard Lawrence Griffin (SN 4206) born in Ballarat, was an 18 year old miner when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 23rd 1915. He embarked for overseas service on December 29th and reached France in April 1916. He served with the 6th Infantry Battalion before being transferred to the 1st Pioneer Battalion in early 1917. He came through the war without significant illness or injury and returned home aboard the City of Poona, disembarked on May 14th 1919 and was discharged on July 6th.

His brother Leslie also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
