Biography

Clement William Scott McCallum (SN 156) was born in Ballarat and, with his brother Austin, attended the Humffray Street State School. He enlisted on August 22nd 1914 as a single, 19 year old cabinet maker. He joined the 8th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne in October on board the Benalla. During his service from the Gallipoli landing to the final months of the war he was twice wounded and promoted to Corporal. He was killed on August 11th 1918 in the fighting near Amiens. He has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.

His brother Austin was killed at Gallipoli in 1915 and is also honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
