Biography

George Ramage Murfett (SN 4169) was born in Horsham but attended the Pleasant Street State School in Ballarat. He enlisted in Ballarat on December 30th 1915. He was a bricklayer, 33 years old and unmarried. He was posted to the 21st Infantry Battalion and embarked in March. He was killed in action at Mouquet Farm on August 26th 1916, and is buried in Serre Road Cemetery No. 1, France.

His brother Harry also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
