Biography

Clarance Rosewarne (SN 1387) born in Berringa, was an 18 year old labourer when he enlisted at Ballarat on March 22nd 1916. He embarked aboard the Ascanius on May 27th and sailed to England. In November he crossed to France to serve with the 39th Infantry Battalion. He came through the war without significant injury or illness, but before returning home he married Daisy Jones in London on September 2nd 1919. He returned to Australia aboard the Runic, disembarked at Melbourne on July 2nd 1919 and was discharged on August 25th. He also enlisted to serve during WW2 with service number N2242.

His brother George also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Clarence Rosenwarne.
