Biography

George Lyle Gladstone Rosewarne was born in Bendigo, Victoria, was single and a Labourer when he enlisted in the 39th Battalion, 3rd Reinforcement on 26 May 1916 at the age of 21. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A9 Shropshire on 25 September 1916 and proceeded overseas to France in December. He suffered a bout of tonsillitis in September 1917 which resulted in a series of brief hospital stays and in August 1918 he was admitted to hospital for dysentery, re-joining his unit a month later. On 25 October 1919 he returned to Australia.

His brother, Corporal Clarence Rosewarne, 39th Bn, also served.
