Cecil Gordon Milburn (SN 11831) born at Happy Valley, was a 21 year old motor driver when he enlisted in Melbourne on April 14th 1916. Assigned to the Australian Army Service Corps as a driver, he embarked from Melbourne aboard the Afric on June 5th. He served in France from November, avoiding battle wounds but experiencing illness on several occasions. When the fighting ended, he was transferred to the 5th Motor Transport Company until he returned to Australia aboard the Persic. He disembarked at Melbourne on August 29th 1919 and was discharged on October 13th. He enlisted to serve again (SN V354732) in World War 2.

His brother John also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Cyril J. Milburn.
