Biography

Stanley Raymond Leech (SN 5796) was a Ballarat born 18 year old labourer when he enlisted in Ballarat on January 24th 1916. He embarked aboard the Euripides on May 4th and sailed to Egypt before moving to France in September to serve with the 7th Infantry Battalion. He managed to avoid serious injury or illness but in October 1916 he was disciplined for ‘insolence to an NCO and for quitting the ranks while on the march’. At the war’s end he returned aboard the Soudan, disembarked at Melbourne on June 29th 1919 and was discharged on August 13th.

His brother Arthur also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
