Biography

Raymond Dawson Vaughan (SN 1005), Ballarat born, was educated at Ballarat College. He was a 24 year old farmer when he enlisted in Ballarat on February 1st 1916. He was allocated to the 39th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne on the Ascanius in late May. On January 12th 1917 he was promoted Lance Corporal. On June 9th 1917 he was killed in action at Messines, and is buried in the Messines Ridge British Cemetery, Belgium.
